Fully featured steam tour with the marvelous Italian built Mallet locomotives, working hard on the steep gradients between
Lessa, Arbaroba, Sheregeni, and Asmara. Fine mountain railroading on 950mm / 3 ft 1 3⁄8 in gauge!

For dedicated photographers and film makers.

After their success in September 2011, Tanago will return to the most spectacular sections of this unique Eritrean railway.
Enjoy the stunning scenery, Italian flair in towns and stations, camel trains, and Mallet type steam locomotives that conquer
this masterpiece of railroad engineering. Travel with a strictly limited number of participants to ensure the best photographic
experience on one of the world´s best mountain railways.

The tour focuses on the spectacular section from Lessa to Arbaroba, followed by the steep climb into the small station of
Sheregeni. Here you will enjoy the breathtaking vistas at the "Devil´s Gate". Just above Sheregeni a marvelous stone arched
bridge offers numerous photographic opportunities, followed by the really steep section with a lot of twists and turns into
Asmara on 2.200 meters (7.200 ft). Night shots at the depot, staged shunting and photography at Asmara station are
included, as is a ride with the Krupp built diesel locomotive and a set of authentic Krupp freight cars.

The number of participants on this tour is strictly limited to ensure photographic quality. The tour will use all operational
classes of steam and diesel locomotives in Eritrea: a sole class 202 (0-4-0 built by Breda), small Mallett 440.008 (0-4-4-0 built
1915 by Ansaldo), class 442 Mallets (0-4-4-0 built 1938 by Ansaldo), Krupp diesel D27 (built 1957), and, if operational by
then, the Fiat railcars "Littorina" and "Littorinella".
