There were a total of 54 Class DE8
locomotives. Whilst they are obviously from
the Alsthom type AD28C family, they were
built by Sorefame in Portugal.
The first 14 locomotives, No's 1800 to 1813,
were designated DE8. They entered service
in 1973 and were all scrapped in 1991.
Between 1973 and 1975 a further 20
locomotives were delivered, designated
DE8A (for airbraked) and numbered 1814 to
1833.
Between 1976 and 1977 the last batch of 20
locomotives arrived. Designated DE8B and
numbered 1834 to 1853, these locomotives
were 18 tons lighter than the others in the
class.
